The Prince of Wales PPG in Poundbury have recently installed a bookcase in the practice waiting area filled with books for all ages. The books are available for anyone to read while waiting for an appointment or take home and enjoy, any donations raised will be used to support future PPG projects that benefit the practice’s patients.

Peter Hazelton, chair of Prince of Wales PPG said “The doctor’s waiting room can be a difficult place to be, especially if you’re not feeling well or waiting for your loved one to have their appointment. We’re lucky at our surgery to have beautiful works of art on the walls and a fish tank to help create a calming environment but we wanted something else to help keep people’s minds off being in the waiting room.

We received generous book donations from people in the area and keep the bookshelf stocked for both children and adults to read. People can just pop the book back when finished or take home to continue to enjoy. Word has spread about our bookcase and we now have people looking for books if they’re dropping off their prescription or just passing by!

We have a very active PPG and donations raised from our bookshelf will contribute towards our PPG activities, including our fabulous strollers group.“

Patient Participation Groups are run by volunteers and work alongside practice teams within GP surgeries. As well as providing feedback to practices on services and helping get information to the wider patient population, PPGs work on projects that bring health and wellbeing benefits to their fellow patients.
