The Adam Practice has recently achieved gold status as an accredited Cycle Friendly Employer. CFE-UK is only awarded to organisations that have exemplary cycle-friendly facilities. This recognition highlights the practice’s commitment to promoting sustainable transport options, improving employee well-being, and reducing its carbon footprint.

The Cycle Friendly Employer scheme, a national initiative, aims to encourage and support businesses in becoming more cycle-friendly workplaces. With funding from BCP council Trip End Facilities grant, and Dorset ICB (Integrated Care Board) premises improvement grant, the Adam Practice was able to improve their cycling provision in their Hamworthy and Poole sites to achieve the gold status accreditation.

“We were able to invest in shower facilities, cycle shelters, D locks, cycle to work policy, promoting a cycling culture, bike breakfast and bike maintenance events,” explains Dr Ben Oxley, GP Partner at the Adam Practice.

“We have achieved a gold award which we are very proud of.  Many more members of staff cycle into work now and we have excellent facilities for locking up bikes at all our sites.”

James Palser Cycling UK CFE project manager said, “Cycling UK is thrilled to award The Adam Practice as an accredited gold Cycle Friendly Employer. The organisation has demonstrated they have gone above and beyond to introduce and nurture a cycling culture with its employees. Congratulations on achieving such a great status.”

The award is timely, as October is marked as National Cholesterol Month, an annual campaign organised by charity Heart UK which raises awareness about the importance of maintaining healthy cholesterol levels and preventing heart disease. Regular physical activity, such as cycling, can have a significant impact on heart health and overall well-being.

Councillor Andy Hadley, Portfolio Holder for Climate Response, Environment and Energy, said “Trip-End Facilities grants from BCP Council help to encourage active and sustainable travel across the conurbation. This support is helping organisations to transform their green-travel ideas from concept to reality, decreasing reliance on harmful fossil fuels.

“No-one understands the health benefits of active travel more than NHS professionals, and I am delighted that The Adam Practice have used the grant to nurture a positive cycling culture.

“I would like to congratulate them on achieving gold status as an accredited Cycle Friendly Employer, which is thoroughly deserved.”
