Dr Rebecca Lye, a GP trainee in Sherborne, has been shortlisted for this year’s General Practice Awards for GP Trainee of the Year/ Rising Star Award.
Dr Nick Berry at The Grove Medical Centre in Sherborne nominated Dr Lye for this award, describing her as an “outstanding and exceptional” GP Trainee and team member, “her infectious enthusiasm and clear sense of purpose has helped lift the morale of the whole team during this difficult chapter dealing with the effects of the pandemic.”
This award seeks to recognise GP Trainees or newly qualified GP’s who have made an outstanding contribution to patients or their practice. It is open to all UK medical graduates who are currently in postgraduate training to become a GP or completed GP training in the last 12 months. This year, they received a record number of nominations making Rebecca’s shortlisting even more impressive.
“I’m so touched to be put forward for this award’ said Dr Lye, “I’m grateful for all the support that I have received from colleagues and patients. I’m truly blown away. Thank you.”
Dr Forbes Watson, Chair of the NHS Dorset GP Alliance commends Dr Lye for her dedication to the role: “It’s fantastic that the care, hard work and positivity of one of our Trainee GP’s is being recognised. It is a challenging time for general practice, yet I know that there is a lot of excellent work happening across the county by my colleagues in primary care. Awards such as this help us to recognise and celebrate this.
“I wish Dr Lye luck at the award ceremony and her future career. You are a credit not only to Grove Medical Centre and its patients, but the profession and NHS in Dorset. Thank you.”
The General Practice Awards ceremony will be held on 9 December 2022 when the winners will be announced. “She has done so much for our practice to promote the wellbeing of her colleagues, and the feedback from her patients is always positive,” said Alex Kimber, Managing Partner at the Grove Medical Centre, “It doesn’t matter if she gets the award or not, to us she will always be a winner.”
