PPG members at Shelley Manor and Holdenhurst Medical Centre recently helped show patients how they can digitally manage their health, including ordering repeat prescriptions. Changes to the way people order repeat prescriptions means that more people are now looking to use digital technology, but not everyone has the confidence to do this.
Sharon Ellison from Shelley Manor and Holdenhurst Medical Centre said “We contacted our patients to inform them of the changes to how repeat prescriptions could be ordered, including information on how this could be done digitally. We received a very positive response but wanted to help those who needed more digital information or support.
We invited people to drop-in sessions where staff would be on hand to help connect people to their digital health record and show them how to order their prescriptions. When we told our PPG about the event, they were keen to be involved.”
Jane Kelly, a PPG member at Shelley Manor & Holdenhurst Medical Centre said “When the PPG were told about the digital support sessions being planned at the surgery I volunteered straight away to help. I have the NHS app myself and use it to order my prescriptions. I’m not a digital expert and know how it feels to be left behind with technology, but with a bit of support people can be empowered to embrace something new. I was really pleased to speak to several people at the event and help show them how to order their prescriptions.”
Approximately 80 people were helped at the two drop-in sessions and more events are being planned for the future. Patients at Shelley Manor & Holdenhurst Medical Centre, Southbourne Surgery, Littledown Surgery and Beaufort Road Surgery are also able to book an appointment with a Digital Care Coordinator, who can offer support on a wide range of digital needs.
