People in Dorset are invited to complete a survey about their confidence in spotting the symptoms of Bowel Cancer and in using a home testing kit.

The short survey is open until Tuesday 8 August 2023 and is available via https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/NHSBowel

The survey responses will help the local NHS understand how to make the testing process easier for the public.

Dr Sarnia Ward, GP and Planned Care Clinical Lead, NHS Dorset said “I would encourage residents to be aware of the possible symptoms of bowel cancer and if you or a family member are experiencing them then to contact your GP surgery.

Your GP may recommend a FIT test, which checks to see if there is any blood in your poo.  This test is straightforward to do at home and the sample is sent off to the laboratory.  If it shows that there is blood, you will likely be referred for further tests at the hospital.

The earlier bowel cancer can be diagnosed, the best chance there is of successful treatment.”

Anyone is able to take part in the survey and people who are unable to access the survey online or would like it in a different format should contact communication@nhsdorset.nhs.uk

All responses are confidential.
